This acreage property bridges the space between dense forest and lake. The residence responds to these two moments, at once both tucked within the canopy and providing expansive views of the layered mountains and lake.

A winding driveway through the lush west coast landscape creates a dramatic arrival and clear separation from any stress that followed you here, first revealing the strong form of the house with it's pure and dark peak rising from the landscape in a clearing of trees.

The owner of this residence has strong memories and ties to this place, having spent his childhood summers waterskiing off the same shores where he now teaches his grandchildren to do the same. The floorplan is tailored to the needs of the unique multigenerational family that live and play here, with each room relating to the hearth and wood stove at the centre of the home, connecting the gathering spaces.

The living areas are spacious with the bedrooms offering flexible configurations, balancing family time with privacy. Each room is thoughtfully connected to the site, with large windows and sliding glass systems orchestrating views, while deep overhangs provide shade and protection from the elements.

Inspired by the feeling of weaving through the cool and shadowed forest on the trails surrounding the site, the exterior materials reflect the play of light and shade. The cladding was reclaimed and locally milled from a decommissioned trestle bridge, at once recycling old materials and anchoring the home into the history of its place. Transforming the old into a modern interpretation, the milled boards are thoughtfully organized into a contemporary board and batten configuration while echoing the tradition of cabin life.
